Chapter 3   Eighteen Again

“So?cold...” Lan Xiao murmured in a low voice.

Suddenly, a figure rushed over. The next second, she felt a thick coat that reeked of tobacco and blood fall over her body.

A cold voice followed from not far away.

“If you are cold, put it on.”

Lan Xiao trembled upon hearing the familiar voice and raised her eyes in disbelief.

She saw a man sitting in the corner, clutching his stomach and leaning against the muddy wall. She couldn’t make out his features, but his eyes shone bright even in the darkness.

She suddenly grabbed the coat, sat up, and shifted closer to the man.

When she saw his facial features, she widened her eyes in shock.

“Are you Wen Muchu?”

“What? Are you trying to play some new trick?” The man snorted coldly.

Tears welled up in Lan Xiao’s eyes at once,

and she couldn’t help but grab his hand.

However, he immediately shook off her hand as if he had gotten an electric shock.

“What are you doing? I saved your life. You won’t accuse me of trying to rape you, will you?” The word “rape” pained Lan Xiao, and immediately took her back to what she had experienced years ago.

Back then, she had woken up in a cold alley just like this one, only to find that her body was covered with scars and her clothes were torn.

When she had noticed the man by her side, she had immediately slapped him in the face and cursed him for being a shameless and despicable bastard.

She hadn’t given him a chance to explain at all, and would never want to see him.

Just moments later, Lou Yucheng had arrived with his men, picked her up, and taken her to safety. He had also ordered his guards to send Wen Muchu, the man found at the scene of the crime, to prison.

Lan Xiao hadn’t seen Wen Muchu since that night. She had wholeheartedly believed that he was the one who had tried to rape her.

For the next dozen years, she never heard his name again, but every night, she had nightmares. He came to her in her dreams, day after day, month after month, and year after year.

One day, to everyone’s surprise, Wen Muchu had shown up again. It turned out that he was the missing son of President Wen Zhihuai, and the youngest officer in the military.

Unfortunately, Lan Xiao had been stupid enough to believe Lou Yucheng’s words, and even let him convince her that Wen Muchu was the one who had murdered her family. Therefore, she had pushed Wen Muchu to his death step by step, and killed him with her own hands.

Thinking of it now, she really wanted to slap herself in the face.

How could she have been so foolish?

But wait...the scene in front of her now looked eerily familiar.

Could it be that she had returned to that fateful night? Was she eighteen again?

She clenched her fists and tried her best to calm herself down. If this was a dream, she hoped that she would never wake up from it.

Could it be that she had really been given a second chance?

——

Still sitting on the ground, Lan Xiao moved inch by inch towards Wen Muchu.

As the stale smell of tobacco wafted up her nostrils, she felt like everything was surreal.

But at this moment, she was no longer afraid, because Wen Muchu was with her.

“Wen Muchu...” She called his name in a husky voice, holding back the tears in her eyes.

“...” Wen Muchu stared at her blankly without responding.

“Wen Muchu...” Lan Xiao called his name again.

“...”

“Wen Muchu...”

Every time she called him, her voice was overflowing with guilt and regret. It almost broke her heart.

She had hurt him, and even killed him. She swore to do her best to be good to him in this life.

“Wen Muchu...”

Wen Muchu finally reached out and touched Lan Xiao’s forehead with his cold fingers. “You don’t have a fever...”
