Chapter 2302: Not Raising the Price (3)

Li Yayan obviously understood that Wang Yang was at the end of his wits. That was why he had started lambasting Qiao Zijin and Qiao Nan. If Wang Yang was as capable as he said and could take action directly, he would never have wasted his breath complaining about them while leaving his enemies alone.

Ring!

Wang Yang’s and Li Yayan’s expressions changed immediately as soon as the phone rang. The couple couldn’t help but move away from the phone. Neither of them was willing to pick it up. There weren’t many people who would call them on such a day. The prime suspect was Wang Yang’s father, Li Yayan’s father-in-law.

The only thing Father Wang had to talk to Wang Yang about now was naturally the Zhu family’s inheritance. Qiao Zijin had returned to Ping Cheng, and Qiao Nan had no intention of taking their bait. With less than twenty-four hours to the court hearing, Wang Yang’s chances of winning the lawsuit were diminishing by the minute.

He was already in a foul mood and was reluctant to pick up his father’s call. His father would not only scold him as though he were a little child but also lecture him for marrying Li Yayan instead of Qiao Nan.

Since Wang Yang didn’t even want to pick up the call, Li Yayan, who had never been liked by her father-in-law, felt immensely stressed as though the phone was a ticking bomb. How she wished she could run as far as possible to save her own life.

“Dear?” Li Yayan shrank away from the phone with tears in her eyes. “Dad’s calling.” So, are you picking it up?

Wang Yang grasped his own hair. “I’m not blind.” Li Yayan could choose to avoid it, but Wang Yang couldn’t. He picked up the call with a dark expression. Immediately, Father Wang asked, “How’s the lawsuit going? Remember what I said, right? The Zhu family’s assets are ours. I’m not going to accept bad news. Wang Yang, you were the one who chose this path. If you fail again, you’ll be a criminal in the Wang family’s eyes.”

When they had first learned that Zhu Baoguo’s death had something to do with Wang Yang, Father Wang and Old Master Wang had spent a lot of effort and money to settle the matter with those hooligans. The Wang family had spent all their money on Wang Yang just to protect him and absolve him of any responsibility regarding Zhu Baoguo’s death.

Father Wang was so insistent on getting the Zhu family’s assets because he felt that the Wang family had already made an investment in Wang Yang. It was only right for them to get a return on their investment. Their principal sum wasn’t what mattered. What mattered was the interest generated. Why did he always have to be mocked by others, who said that he always used his wife’s money? The Wang family was rich, but he had had to depend on his wife instead!

It was all because he had forked out all of the Wang family’s money to send those hooligans related to Zhu Baoguo’s death away so that Zhu Chengqi would never find them in Ping Cheng again.

If that had been an investment on the Wang family’s part, it was time for their family’s thirty-year investment to come to an end now that Zhu Chengqi was dead.

Wang Yang had to resist the urge to smash his phone upon hearing his father’s stern words. Did he not want to succeed? Did he not want to bring the Wang family to greater heights? Did they really think that he wanted to fail after all the effort he had put in over the years? But his dad had done nothing to help him and was even pressuring him even further! Was that even his biological father they were talking about? Had they simply picked him up from the trash?

“Are you mute? Reply to me!” Father Wang grew more impatient because he had not gotten a response from his son. Father Wang knew that Wang Yang’s reaction meant that the Zhu family’s assets and resources were only getting even further out of their reach. They had been so close to it, and now, it was going to be someone else’s!

The Wang family had emptied their bank accounts to solve that matter regarding Zhu Baoguo. Ever since then, apart from Wang Yang, who had made slight progress and hadn’t let the Wang family fall into dire straits, none of Father Wang’s siblings or nephews had performed well.

While Old Master Wang had still been alive, he had already made Father Wang and his siblings promise that Wang Yang would lead their children, asking them to wait until the day they couldn’t afford to wait anymore. Although the promise had been slightly vague, the Wang family wasn’t stupid and they understood what that had meant.

Knowing that Father Wang was Zhu Chengqi’s brother-in-law, Father Wang’s siblings had held it in. They could only hope that their nephew, Wang Yang, would be able to make a name for himself one day. Then, their lives would improve as well. The Wang family knew that Zhu Chengqi’s death was fast approaching too.

Two entire generations of the Wang family had toiled through those times, and the third generation of their family had already been born. Finally, they had seen the last of the Zhu family. The entire Wang family had been waiting for Wang Yang’s good news when such a will appeared out of blue. Father Wang, who had been living in Ping Cheng, bore the brunt of the entire Wang family’s resentment and anger. After a while, even Father Wang couldn’t hold it in any longer.

Now, he could only convey and vent all the accusations and pressure he had faced from the Wang family onto Wang Yang. Even he wasn’t willing for the son, whom he and his father had devoted themselves and the family’s money to, to let the family down.

Because he knew that the court hearing would happen the next day, Father Wang knew that Wang Yang had been exploring other alternatives in an attempt to convince Qiao Nan to give up the inheritance. But now that the court hearing was looming, they couldn’t expect Qiao Nan to give up that huge inheritance after the court made its judgment, right?

It wasn’t that he was gauging the Zhai family by his own measure. The Zhu family was pretty much a second Zhai family. The Zhai family didn’t need the Zhu family’s money, but that didn’t mean that they would be any more reasonable when it came to money.

As such, Father Wang was clear that they had to get all of the Zhu family’s assets before the lawsuit ended and before the judgment was passed. As the date of the court hearing date neared, Father Wang gradually lost sleep, never even having one good night’s rest. He didn’t want to place so much pressure on Wang Yang or ask Wang Yang about the situation either. He was hoping that Wang Yang would take the initiative to contact him with some good news.
